NetDimensions, a leading learning technologies company, is hiring a DevOps Engineer to join our Software Architecture team. In this role, you’ll report to the Software Architect and will work across the company's entire DevOps Toolchain that aid in cloud-based delivery, development, build, deployment and management of applications, the foundation of our software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will assist in formulating the DevOps toolchain strategy related to the software development life-cycle (however this excludes the links that relate to hosting team), selecting cloud-based solutions, developing monitoring and reporting standards and managing – all while keeping a laser-like focus on costs and security.


You will be responsible for availability, scalability, and risk mitigation of all systems that are required for the software development process, while working closely with the software engineering, QA, hosting, IT, and client services teams across the globe. You will give technical input during infrastructure redesigns and aid the company in adopting new technologies and methodologies. This position is responsible for maintaining security controls and conducting vulnerability assessments against our web applications and server infrastructure that form our DevOps ecosystem.


As part the Software Architecture team, you will be charged with maintaining and improving our security profile for development, QA and client services sites involved in delivering engaging and robust learner experiences.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced engineer who thinks logically, acts rationally and understands the challenges of supporting current and emerging technology stacks that enable NetDimensions to continuously to grow and enhance it Software Engineering, QA, hosting and Client Support services.

This is a permanent position in NetDimensions Brighton, UK. Candidates must be legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom. Occasional travel abroad may be required.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside a global talented team of colleagues and quintessentially creative individuals who are building learning applications and services
  • Develop and design tools to instrument and alert on problems, on-going releases and projects
  • Own availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency for the team's services
  • Deploy and maintain automated scanning of various NetDimensions’ properties, including validating findings and driving remediation
  • 1st point of contact for in-house development and hosting team to accommodate requests
  • Support of web and mobile applications maintaining uptime while fielding escalations as part of on-call rotation
  • Responsible for the DevOps architecture, including build, deployment, and support of a continuous Integration and continuous deployment strategy for the software engineering and QA teams
  • Ability to deftly and clearly communicate with the technology teams and to non-technical members of the organization
  • Design strategies for security monitoring of new and existing systems
  • Ability to deftly and clearly communicate with the technology team and to non-technical members of the organization
  • Mentor junior colleagues and encourage their growth and knowledge of infrastructure

The requirements for this role are:

  • Demonstrable extensive experience managing Linux application servers (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS)
  • Demonstrable experience with fluid virtual infrastructures (VMware, Docker, AWS, OpenStack)
  • Demonstrable experience with Apache (Tomcat) / NGINx
  • Demonstrable experience with networking, storage and sysadmin best practices
  • Demonstrable experience with database servers, preferably Oracle, MySQL or PostgreSQL
  • Demonstrable experience with enterprise search platforms, like Solr
  • Demonstrable experience with with SVN/GIT alongside Agile development processes
  • Strong understanding of performance metrics from stress/load tests
  • Demonstrable experience of various cache configurations, including Redislab
  • Demonstrated experience securing high-traffic properties (cloud and on-prem)
  • Demonstrable experience with build tools, preferably like Gradle or Maven
  • Demonstrable experience with Ansible, Chef, or Puppet
  • Demonstrable experience with managing cloud-based continuous integration servers (for example Jenkins or Bamboo)
  • Demonstrable experience with Jira <->ZenDesk integration and Confluence
  • Strong knowledge in scripting and programming languages (Python, Ruby, PorwerShell, Golang)
  • Track record of delivering hardened, fault-tolerant, high-availability designs
  • Lazy enough to automate tasks, smart enough to document them well (including Server Architecture diagrams)
  • Strong sense of ownership and urgency

The Senior Software Architect is a pivotal role within our global Software Engineering Team at NetDimensions (part of the Learning Technologies Group). This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful learning solutions that will make a genuine difference to people's lives.

The focus of the Senior Software Engineering Team is to support the company in leading the domain of learning technologies, specifically in (social-)learning, compliance and performance management, exams, and learner analytics. Our portfolio includes major clients including Healthcare, Life Science, Financial Services, Energy, and Government industries.


The Senior Software Architect will be responsible for defining and delivering new (productised) cloud-based software (sub-)systems and enhancing / extending existing ones. This role is critical in taking the engineering team into a domain using web development frameworks. This role will do this in collaboration with several departments in the company, and where needed, with strategic clients.

Where appropriate, the Senior Software Architect will be introducing cutting-edge technologies to deliver new (sub-)products and/or optimise existing ones. The Senior Software Architect will mentor and coach other software engineers as they carry out (sprints of) build work, ensuring they are provided with clear instructions of how to approach execution of build tasks and quality assuring work.This role will also personally carry out complex development tasks to actively support the development of the company’s road map.

The Senior Software Architect will help to ensure proposals are technically robust and correctly estimated. The Senior Software Architect will be expected to bring industry-wide best-practice to all of their work whilst maintaining a broad range of technical knowledge and is expected to provide leadership to the DevOps chain that provides the foundation for the organisation’s software development life cycle.

Ideally, you will be based in Brighton, and you are expected to be working in a team locally and virtually with a variety of teams within NetDimension and Learning Technologies Group based across the globe. You will be expected to travel (inter-)nationally occasionally.

 

In more detail, some of the duties in this role are:

Defining software architectures:

  • Manage the documented architectural blueprints of NetD’s products, including non-functional requirements.
  • Manage technology selection by considering technology strategy, costs, licensing, compatibility, interoperability, support, deployment, upgrade policies, and end-user environments. This is done successfully by reducing risk where there is high complexity or uncertainty, and introducing risk where there are benefits to be had.
  • Manage architecture evaluation by prototyping and testing throughout the software development lifecycle to provide NetD customers with confidence that the system we are delivering will work when rolled out.
  • Manage the architecture definition process, introducing structure, guidelines, principles and leadership to the software engineering aspects of the organisation.
  • Manage architecture collaboration. This ranges from the immediate software engineering team who need to understand and buy into the architecture, right through to other stakeholders who have an interest from a product management, sales, security, operations, maintenance, and support point of view. To be successful, you will need to collaborate closely with all of the products stakeholders to ensure that the new or modified architectures will successfully integrate with existing and new releases. 

Delivering software architectures:

  • Managing the bigger picture by selling the architecture vision throughout the entirety of the software development life cycle, evolving it throughout the delivery if necessary and taking responsibility for ensuring that it's delivered successfully.
  • Undertake leadership by taking responsibility, providing technical guidance, making technical decisions and having the authority to make those decisions.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring at times when individuals need assistance by providing team members with a way to enhance people's skills and to help them improve their own careers.
  • Manage quality assurance by maintaining high code standards, design principles and source code analysis tools through to the use of continuous integration, automated unit testing, deployment automation and code coverage tools.
  • Design, development and testing code by being a hands-on architect to continuously engage and participate in development projects, actively helping to shape and deliver them.

The requirements for this role are:

  • B.Sc. in any of the STEM fields, preferably Computer Science.
  • Five+ years of experience with identifying issues and implementing solutions to complex problems in medium to large-scale backend infrastructure and preferably mobile platforms.
  • Demonstrable significant experience with analysing and solving complex and difficult problems across the stack.
  • Five+ years of experience with web development frameworks (for example Spring, Hibernate and React) to ease the creation of complex, data-driven applications, that emphasises reusability and ‘pluggability’ of components, rapid development, and support the principle of don't repeat yourself.
  • Demonstrate significant experience with secure software architectures designed for cloud-based solutions.
  • Demonstrable experience with unit testing and BDD testing frameworks.
  • Demonstrable experience creating complex solutions using industry standards and best-practice, excellent understanding across a wide range of technologies, processes, tools and systems.
  • Able to understand enterprise-scale solutions and how NetDimensions solutions can be integrated.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-motivated, capable of learning quickly and reacting to a world of ever evolving technologies.
  • Have real enthusiasm and passion for the field of software engineering, and be proud of your work.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the entire DevOps chain, preferably cloud based.
  • Demonstrable experience with the Scrum methodology.

The Enterprise Account Executive is responsible for NetDimensions hosted services, software and professional services sales within a geography and/or targeted industry. This role reports to the SVP Global Sales and is based in the US, Travel throughout the region is expected with International travel as required.

Develop, manage and track sales pipeline through lead generation, industry events and meetings.
Cultivate relationships with all new and assigned accounts to expand product penetration.

The requirements for this role are:

The Implementation Consultant is a key role within NetDimensions Services that combines the expertise of Business & System Analysis with Functional Consultancy. Implementation Consultants are Product Experts and deliver successful implementations by configuring the system to achieve client requirements in agreed timescales. You will map client business processes to system configuration, identify workarounds/customisations and advise the client on best-practice relating to learning and talent management systems.

This is a fast paced role with many changing priorities and the role holder will need effective skills to enable delivery against agreed deadlines, often within the context of a larger client engagement.

 

The main duties will include:

  • The delivery of the implementation process, for multiple engagements, from requirements definition through to client acceptance

System Implementation

  • Configure NetDimensions software to meet client requirements, using expert product knowledge to maximise client benefits
  • Collaborating with Project Managers, Technical Consultants and Developers to align any wider engagement plans and achieve desirable client outcomes.
  • Act as client SME for trouble-shooting and queries during implementation and post-engagement consultancy periods
  • Manage the client through system testing and feedback cycles
  • Facilitate technical discussions with clients on topics such as installation/upgrades, customisations, integrations and APIs. Liaise with more technical colleagues where required

The duties this role involves are to:

  • Research and qualify potential companies and prospects from multiple sources, including social media, dormant accounts, competitor client information, news and top company lists

  • Experience working for in a vendor environment, particularly in a Learning/Talent software context
  • Experience in working in any established project methodology, especially PRINCE2
  • A demonstrated interest in software applied to HR and/or Learning
  • Proficiency or fluency in other European, Middle Eastern or African languages are advantageous
