Client Snapshot: Norton Healthcare Improves Compliance & Overcomes Workforce Challenges

Norton Healthcare started as a modest, faith-based, largest integrated healthcare system in Kentucky with more than 14,000 employees at five hospitals, 13 Norton Immediate Care Centers and 90 physician practice locations. The organization has become a leading healthcare provider with some of the most advanced technologies and well-trained physicians, nurses and staff.

The Search for the Best Learning Management System

As Norton Healthcare’s training and compliance needs had long exceeded the capabilities of their existing Learning Management System (LMS), they embarked on an initiative to identify a new provider.

After extensive system reviews, Norton Healthcare selected NetDimensions Learning as the LMS that would most effectively support their mission and meet both compliance needs and user demands. In the video below, Al Cornish, Chief Learning Officer for Norton Healthcare, talks about the LMS selection process:

“In the selection process, we engaged our internal staff from Norton University. We also engaged staff from a number of the stakeholders around the system. We wanted to engage staff members, who would be primarily utilizing the system on a daily basis. …The stakeholders included in our selection process were from the information system department, the human resources department, the compliance department, the institute for nursing, and Norton Healthcare University.”

Overcoming Compliance Challenges

Norton Healthcare needed a market-leading solution that was capable not only of delivering the robust learning and training their teams desired, but also the comprehensive reporting and audit trails required by external regulators and credentialing agencies such as the Joint Commission.

In this video, Kathleen Recktenwald, Norton University’s eLearning Development Manager, talks about the regulatory compliance requirements they considered in selecting their LMS:

“We had a number of regulatory compliance issues to consider when we selected the LMS system, one of which was the Joint Commission, which is a large healthcare organization that manages and monitors healthcare programs. We have to provide what training folks have done, any completion on their training script at any given time.”

Positive Impact on Norton Healthcare Learning Programs

Administrators are now able to quickly collect training data and produce reports for the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies with considerably less effort than previously required. Managers can access learning analytics that provide granular reporting and observe end-users’ learning and training behaviors.

Cornish stated: “The reaction to the NetDimensions’ LMS has been overwhelming. Our employees love the system. Our leadership team, they love the system.”
